Going from good to GREAT takes commitment. The question you need to ask yourself is:
“Are you willing to make the commitment to be great?”
There are some people who believe that being an entrepreneur means you have to be involved in two or three businesses that generate revenue at one given time. One friend of mine was always busy and he’d say “Well…such is the life of being an entrepreneur.”
However, a TRUE entrepreneur is focused on one thing…Making one company GREAT!
We only need to look at the hit TV show “Shark Tank” to prove my point. Each shark currently invests in several different businesses and we think, “WOW, these are true entrepreneurs! I want to do that!” but how did the Sharks get to where they are today?
Barbara Corcoran quit her job as a waitress, borrowed $1,000, and started a tiny real estate company. Robert Herjavec launched a computer company in his basement. Daymond John learned how to sew from his mother, made hats in her house, sold them to neighbors, and eventually formed the multi-million dollar clothing brand FUBU.
They didn’t make their money by dividing their time, resources, and energy over multiple business ideas. They started with one business and made it GREAT.
When the sharks are trying to decide if they will invest, they ask the entrepreneur if they are “ALL-IN”. If an entrepreneur says, “I have a full-time job, but I’m doing this on the side,” the sharks never invest. Why? This is because the entrepreneur is not “ALL-IN”.
If you are truly wanting to be successful at something, you have to be “ALL-IN”. You have to live, eat, sleep, and breathe your dream. Whatever your business is, if you don’t give it your full attention, you are only hurting yourself. When your business bears plentiful fruit, you can put it on auto-pilot and look at other ventures. Until then, if you have your hands in multiple pots giving a part-time effort, you can only expect part-time results. You may be good at it, but you’ll never be GREAT.
Put all business opportunities aside for now. Focus on being GREAT at one thing and your success will take care of itself!
